NEWARK, Del., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to reach out to wounded soldiers, Retired Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Steve Udovich has organized "Warrior Weekend," a series of uplifting and rejuvenating weekend retreats -- offered at no cost to injured soldiers and marines. The trips focus on rest and relaxation for soldiers hurt in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After suffering terrible wounds from combat with Islamic Terrorists, these brave men and women are now embarking on a long road of recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where they are encouraged to venture out of the hospital for various activities.

Udovich was inspired to launch Warrior Weekend while visiting the medical center last year. "I decided that something had to be done to help them heal both physically and emotionally," Udovich explains. Since then, he has organized eight successful trips to exciting destinations, including New York City, Washington, DC, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Baltimore, Maryland. Nine more weekends are slated for the upcoming year.

Warrior Weekend is sponsored by American Legion Post 28 of Delaware and is completely funded by individuals and organizations. Marriott Hotels, Xerox, and other companies have generously provided sponsorships for the program. "Our mission is to offer these trips at no cost whatsoever," says Udovich. "That means we must raise a lot of money. We're off to a good start, but we need more help to connect with the soldiers and marines who so deeply benefit from these weekends."

Udovich spent a year in Iraq, earning the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He survived numerous IED blasts and direct fire battles while he commanded a U.S. Army Team who served as advisors to the Iraqi Army. He also served with the 11th and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiments.
