Headphones Go Mental: United Sciences' Newest Product Can Read Your Mind

United Sciences, the company that created the first mobile scanning technology to use 3D measurements of the inner ear for hearing devices, announced today that it has developed a custom-fit Bluetooth headphone that can monitor brainwaves. Named “The Aware,” the revolutionary new product features embedded biometric sensors that track brainwaves through EEG, enabling users to obtain real-time feedback related to focus, stress, relaxation, and sleep patterns. In addition, the new technology provides more traditional metrics including heart rate, steps, distance traveled, and calories burned – all accessible through the user’s cell phone.

According to Henrik Christensen, head of robotics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, The Aware also addresses what has been a key issue in the evolution of monitoring devices. He notes: "Sensors for health and exercise monitoring are becoming omnipresent. A major challenge is the quality of data. To generate data that is good enough for healthcare type applications, the sensors must be accurately positioned. The approach by United Sciences is unmatched in accuracy and enables entirely new applications, as seen with The Aware device."

“The Aware will connect you to your mind and body in ways that have not been possible in a consumer product ever before,” says Sam Kellett, CEO and Co-founder of United Sciences. “The ability to reliably and unobtrusively capture biometric and brainwave data opens up limitless possibilities and game-changing applications that will improve the quality of life.”

The innovative approach is also being positively received by medical and healthcare professionals. "This technology is going to help us unlock some of the mysteries of the brain," said Dr. Allan Levey, who chairs Emory University's Department of Neurology.

The Aware is expected to launch in late 2016 and will be available through eFit 3D ear scanning locations in 24 countries around the world. A select number of pre-orders are currently being made available to participants in the company's Kickstarter funding program at
