Harmon Meadow Run For The Warriors Honors Local Fallen Hero
Date:8/15/2013

SECAUCUS, NJ (PRWEB) August 16, 2013

The 3rd Annual Harmon Meadow Run For The Warriors® presented by Hartz Mountain Industries will be held at The Plaza at Harmon Meadow on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. Registration for the 5K or 1-Mile Walk/Run is $30 with special pricing for service members and students. All proceeds from the Harmon Meadow Run For The Warriors® will benefit Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit organization that assists post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. For more information or to register, visit http://www.hopeforthewarriors.org/harmonmeadowrun

In keeping with tradition, this event will begin with an opening ceremony, including singing of the National Anthem. The opening ceremony honors local wounded heroes and families of the fallen. It provides a time to remember those who have given of themselves in the line of duty.

One fallen service member that will be honored is Specialist Rafael Nieves, Jr, USA (KIA). Nieves, who grew up in both Jersey City, NJ and Albany, NY, was killed in action on July 10, 2011 in Afghanistan.

“He loved protecting people and protecting his friends,” said Thomas Priolo, stepfather of SPC Rafael Nieves. “His dream was to serve his country.”

“[Rafael’s] young kids won’t remember him because they were so young when he died,” said his mother. “Having this run in memory of Rafael will ensure that they realize that their father was a good man who fought for our country.”

Last year’s Harmon Meadow Run For The Warriors raised more than $53,000 which was used towards ten Hope For The Warriors® Programs right here in Secaucus and surrounding towns. Hope For The Warriors® provides a full cyc
