To address these changes, the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) is offering a critical two-part Web Conference, "HIPAA Amendments in Federal Stimulus Bill: Part 1 - Learn About Blockbuster Changes to HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules," March 30, 2009, 12 Noon Central; "Part 2 - Immediate Action Items You Need to Implement," April 9, 2009, 12 Noon Central, to review the significant privacy and security amendments contained in The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the Stimulus Bill).

"These amendments could mean significant changes to health care providers' compliance programs," says Roy Snell, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA).

HCCA will provide a panel of hands-on experts to review the amendments in the Stimulus Bill signed into law on February 17, 2009 and how the changes will impact health care providers' compliance programs. Conference speakers include:

HIPAA Amendments in Federal Stimulus Bill Part I

On March 30, 2009, 12 Noon Central, Part 1 - Learn About Blockbuster Changes to HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules - HCCA's expert panel will outline and review the critical privacy and security changes, including:

  • Business associates will now have to fully comply with HIPAA privacy and security rules in the same manner as the "Covered Entities" that they serve (e.g., hospitals, physicians and health plans)
  • Requires Breach Notification
  • Increases fine and penalties
  • Changes to Civil Monetary Penalties (CMPs): $100 up to $25,000 / $1,000 up to $100,000 / $10,000 up to $250,000 / $50,000 up to $1,500,000

HIPAA Amendments in Federal Stimulus Bill - Part 2

On April 9, 2009, 12 Noon Central Part 2 - Immediate Action Items You Need to Implement - will address the "immediate action" items needed to implement the new provisions. Speakers will answer questions including:

  • What will it require to implement the breach notification provisions?
