HCL International: Australia a Favourite Destination for UK Social Workers and GPs
Date:7/9/2010

an health and social care practitioners take a similar approach to their peers in the UK, especially as the two countries have a language and culture in common. British GPs and social workers are hugely admired for their skills, knowledge of socio-economic issues and tried and proven methods of care.

Meaghan Roland, Manager at HCL International, explains:

“Every year, thousands of British citizens emigrate to Australia, attracted by the prospect of joining a robust economy and attaining a better work-life balance. GPs and social workers are no different and in fact are better placed to make a successful transition because they both have uniquely transferable skills, and because practice in Britain and Australia are very similar.

“Interested GPs need to demonstrate five years’ experience, and can choose to work in a range of environments from small private practices to larger organisations, some of them state funded. For social workers, there are a range of disciplines for which roles are available, especially Child Protection and Adoption and Fostering. In the Northern Territory they will work with rural communities with their own specific needs, while in Victoria they will work in more urbanised environments encountering similar socio-economic issues as in the UK.

“Above all, the shortage of GPs and social workers in Australia mean that they can command very attractive salary packages, and attain a better lifestyle for themselves and their families.”

GPs and social workers interesting in finding out more should call HCL International on 020 7861 8950.
