HBO, UCSD Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, The Alzheimer's Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter and The Neurosciences Institute Present an Advance Screening of THE ALZHEIMER'S PROJECT: 'MOMENTUM IN SCIENCE'
Date:4/9/2009

ENCE details the current explosion of knowledge within the scientific and medical communities, from imaging the earliest signs of Alzheimer's, to understanding the roles that genetics and lifestyle might play, to the tremendous progress being made in the effort to develop drugs to treat or even prevent the disease.

The University of California, San Diego Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center was established in 1984 to translate research advances in Alzheimer's disease into improved diagnosis and care for patients, while focusing on finding ways to prevent, treat and ultimately eradicate the disease. It is also home to the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study - a nationwide consortium of institutions designated to carry out clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease in cooperation with the National Institute on Aging - directed by Paul Aisen, MD.

The Neurosciences Institute is dedicated to learning about the brain for the benefit of all mankind. Under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Gerald M. Edelman, the Institute focuses its theoretical and experimental research on the principles underlying how we perceive the world, how we learn and remember, and how consciousness arises.

THE ALZHEIMER'S PROJECT is presented by HBO Documentary Films and the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health in association with the Alzheimer's Association(R), Fidelity(R) Charitable Gift Fund and Geoffrey Beene Gives Back(R) Alzheimer's Initiative. The series producer is John Hoffman; the executive producers are Sheila Nevins and Maria Shriver.
