HB Litigation Conferences Announces Conference and Two Teleconferences on Chinese Drywall Litigation and Insurance

NEW ORLEANS, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Litigation surrounding health and damage claims relating to Chinese drywall is the subject of June 18 conference to be held in New Orleans. The event will be co-chaired by prominent tort law firm Baron & Budd, according to HB Litigation Conferences LLC, host of the event.

HB also announced two teleconferences on the subject, one for insurance attorneys and in-house counsel, the other for litigators interested in the health and damage litigation.

The June 18 "Chinese Drywall Litigation Conference" will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New Orleans. Topics include an overview of the product and the players, liability issues facing builders, distributors and manufacturers; property damage claims; health damage claims; state and federal legislative developments; bankruptcy potential for the already hard-hit construction and real estate market; a class action and MDL update; and the "insurance coverage nightmare."

Bruce Steckler of Baron & Budd is serving as plaintiff co-chair. A defense co-chair is being selected. The event is being Webcast and recorded.

To offer more immediate educational opportunities, the two teleconferences will take place on June 1 and June 2.

On June 1, Matthew Jacobs of Jenner & Block LLP and Robert Horst of Nelson Levine de Luca & Horst will address the insurance aspects of this new litigation. Topics include: first-party and third-party coverage claims; trigger of coverage; endorsements; exclusions; types of policies likely to come into play; "additional insured" issues; subrogation opportunities; and potential ramifications for reinsurers.

On June 2, Arnold Levin of Levin, Fishbein, Sedran & Berman, Ervin Gonzalez of Law Offices of Ervin Gonzalez and John Mullen of Nelson Levine de Luce & Horst will offer an overview of Chinese drywall litigation. Specific topics include: understanding the difference between Chinese and U.S. domestic drywall; health and property damage claims; subjects of potential liability; remediation costs; health-related expenses; where the product was used; the status of the MDL and class actions; and the types of expert witnesses needed for Chinese drywall litigation.
