Greenland's National Management of Health Partners with AMD Global Telemedicine Inc. and AFHCAN to Install Telemedicine Encounter Management Systems (TEMS) Across Greenland
Date:12/16/2008

Greenland to implement new Telemedicine Encounter Management Systems (TEMS) in an effort to provide more accessible, cost-effective health care.

N. Chelmsford, MA (PRWEB) December 15, 2008 -- Capitalizing on Tele-Greenland's infrastructure investment into Greenland by way of an underwater cable from Canada, Greenland's National Management of Health has embarked on a new telemedicine program. For many people, the introduction of broadband means cable television and high speed web surfing. For the people of Greenland, broadband will mean unprecedented access to health care.

Dr. Birgitte Asmin Schurizek, Greenland's Chief Medical Officer said, "Telemedicine means a great deal to us. Geographic barriers and transportation challenges have made it difficult in the past to provide prompt and efficient medical care to our people. Greenland is eager to see the immense changes in care delivery and effectiveness this new program will provide."

"Phase one of the telemedicine rollout began in October 2008, stated Finn Christensen, Director of IT for the National Management of Health. "My team and I visited AMD Global Telemedicine's headquarters in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA where we underwent testing and configuration of the new systems. Our clinicians have finished their training on the new systems and everything is going great. This is a very exciting time for Greenland."

The AFHCAN system in Alaska has been working cooperatively with the Greenland Health Ministry, when the Governments of the United States and Denmark, including the Home Rule Government of Greenland, agreed to broaden the relationship between the United States and Greenland. A delegation from the Greenland Ministry of Health visited Alaska in 2006 for a series of meetings with AFHCAN in Anchorage and Maniilaq Association in Kotzebue to facilitate the exchange of information on how telehealth is used to enhance access to health care.

"AMD is honored to partake in what will be an extraordinary progression in health care for all of Greenland," stated Dan McCafferty, Vice President of Global Sales and Corporate Development of AMD Global Telemedicine, Inc.
