GranuFlo Recall Website Launched By Hissey Kientz, LLP Law Firm

The law firm of Hissey Kientz, LLP is announcing the launch of its new website, GranuFlo Recall Help (http://www.granuflorecallhelp.com/). The site will serve as a source for news and legal information for patients and their families who have experienced side effects after receiving hemodialysis treatment with GranuFlo or NaturaLyte dialysate concentrates.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Class 1 Recall of GranuFlo dry acid concentrate and NaturaLyte liquid acid concentrate in March 2012 after it was presented with a leaked internal memo from GranuFlo and NaturaLyte manufacturer Fresenius Medical Care (FMC).

GranuFlo and NaturaLyte acid concentrates contain bicarbonate, which is used during hemodialysis treatment to neutralize acid build up in the blood. When patients have elevated pre-dialysis bicarbonate blood levels, the addition of GranuFlo or NaturaLyte could raise bicarbonate levels to dangerous heights, resulting in serious side effects such as heart attack, stroke or sudden death.

In their November 2011 internal memo, Fresenius Medical Care warned that patients with elevated bicarbonate levels were six times more likely to suffer a heart attack or sudden cardiac death from GranuFlo or NaturaLyte than patients using other dialysis products. Fresenius also reported that 941 patients had experienced sudden cardiac arrest within their dialysis clinics in 2010 after undergoing hemodialysis treatment with GranuFlo or NaturaLyte.
