Grace Smith House Launches Healthy Relationship Campaign for Teens During Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Poughkeepsie, NY (PRWEB) October 21, 2013

The Grace Smith House, a private not-for-profit domestic violence agency which provides both residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their children, announced the launch of a social media campaign which teaches teens about healthy relationships.

“Sadly, one in three teens have been in an abusive relationship,” said Himali Gandhi, Youth Education Outreach Coordinator, Grace Smith House. “Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime. The campaign serves as a catalyst to help teens understand what a healthy relationship is about.”

Grace Smith House worked with a focus group of area teens at Children’s Media Project to create the campaign, which consists of student produced PSAs, cinema advertising, high school football field advertising and Facebook advertising that all leads to

“The hope of our campaign was to meet teens where they are and educate them in an interactive way,” Gandhi said.

When the quiz is completed, the results tell the teen whether their relationship seems OK, if there are some warning signs or if they should seek help and provides the Grace Smith, free 24/7 hotline: 1-845-471-3033.

Gandhi explained that it takes a victim an average of seven times to leave an abusive relationship because the abuser has power and control over them. “We want teens in our community to know that there is someone they can trust. We are here to help them.”
