Gordon & Rees LLP Joins ArlenGroup-CIGNA Health Care Purchasing Consortium
Date:1/4/2008

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- ArlenGroup, the leading provider of employee benefit consulting and insurance brokerage services to medium and large west coast law firms, announces the expansion of its West Coast Health Care Consortium for Law Firms. Gordon & Rees LLP has entered the Consortium beginning January 1, 2008, joining Heller Ehrman LLP, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC as participating firms in this progressive insurance purchasing alliance.

The Consortium is a cooperative focused on meeting the health care procurement and service needs of law firms that have more than 500 employees and at least 20% of those employees outside of the firm's headquarter state. Participating firms retain complete control over their benefit plans but work collaboratively to maximize the value received for their health care premium dollars. The Consortium will continue to partner with CIGNA Healthcare as the underwriter of medical and dental benefits.

"Through the consortium, member firms achieve a lower absolute cost of health insurance, more manageable and predictable increases in future health care costs, and receive expanded services for plan participants," said ArlenGroup founder and President Roger Arlen. "ArlenGroup completed a comprehensive analysis of the leading national health care plans for 2008 and CIGNA re-established itself as the health plan that is most committed to supporting the special needs of large multi-state law firms."

"CIGNA has worked hard to deliver the combination of benefits, services and value that law firms demand on behalf of their partners, attorneys and staff," said CIGNA Vice President of Sales for Northern California Kirby Hutson. "We look forward to working with ArlenGroup and the member firms to continue to both manage benefit costs and enhance the services provided to members' shareholders, attorneys and staff."

"The expansion of our legal practice to nine offices outside of California exposed holes in our regionally focused health care purchasing strategy," said Gordon & Rees' Executive Director Mark Stephens. "We needed a health plan partner that could provide a more consistent and affordable offering across our offices. We feel very fortunate to have been provided the opportunity to evaluate ArlenGroup's Consortium and look forward to a long term relationship with CIGNA."

"The consortium is the best of all worlds for us," said Margo Lamont, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP's Director of Compensation and Benefits. "We get access to terms and services that we wouldn't otherwise have access to as an independent purchaser while maintaining full autonomy with respect to how we design and fund our benefit plans."

Consortium members continue to evaluate other ways to both save money and add value through this collaboration. Through ArlenGroup, the Consortium is considering initiatives that include jointly investing in worksite health promotion programs and more efficiently managing international benefit consulting and procurement needs.

In addition to the West Coast Health Care Consortium for Law Firms, ArlenGroup's Law Firm Practice Group provides law firms with a Group LTD and Life Insurance purchasing group, the legal industry's most detailed benefits

benchmarking survey, and a broad range of plan design, employee contribution, employee communication and compliance services.
