Clear, Concise, Efficient
Transformed into an efficient online tool with easy drop-down navigation and quick summaries, ToxED now offers clinicians enough information to save patients' lives at the point-of-care, along with detailed but accessible and actionable treatment recommendations, sources and rationales.
ToxED bests several of its online and print toxicology competitors, which often required clinicians to wade through highly dense information to find a specific answer to a poisoning or exposure case. For example, a search on aspirin done within a competitor's resource might yield 35-50 fairly atypical case examples of individuals who suffered from aspirin overdoses.
"These interesting but atypical cases tend not to meet clinicians' needs and require an extensive amount of time to search and review," said Dr. Shannon. "A clinician attempting to treat a 70-year-old man with an aspirin level of 85 wants reasonable step-by-step guidance on what to do, not a unwieldy treatise on everything that could possibly happen to a patient."
Unique Plant, Mushroom Database
Among the most unique features of ToxED is its plant and mushrooms database. Often burdened with having to search for case reports on people who may have eaten poisonous berries, for example, clinicians can now consult ToxED to retrieve specific, actionable advice, including a picture of the berry, a description of the toxin and its effects and easy-to-follow treatment recommendations.
