Retreat participants will uplift the divine while enjoying a beautiful landscape, labyrinth and solitude -- just 45 minutes by train from New York City.
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 13, 2010 -- God is a Brown Girl Too® is holding its 2010 "Awakening to Love" retreat at the Mariandale Retreat Center, located in Westchester County, near New York City, from Friday, July 16, 2010, at 4:00 P.M. until Sunday, July 18, 2010, at 1:00 P.M. The cost for the entire retreat, including both the workshops, single-room accommodations and meals is just $450.00. Last year's retreat was a huge success. This year, rooms are limited, so only those who register soon -- at God is a Brown Girl Too -- will be able to attend.
Founded by the Reverend Cecilia Loving, God is a Brown Girl Too was created to provide women of color with a new story of self-love, self-esteem and self-empowerment. The retreat workshops and hands-on activities will teach participants the power of releasing the past, revitalizing in the now, and transforming for the future. Rev. Loving says "God is a Brown Girl Too looks beyond tradition to explore the unlimited presence of God in the lives of women worldwide, who have often been the most marginalized of society."
"Awakening to Love" will not only feature workshops that will help participants gain more wisdom, focus and creativity, it will also provide an opportunity to exercise the body, to restore the soul, and to center in the silence. "Yes, a short portion of the retreat will be silent," which Rev. Loving says "quiets the mind, so it can stop talking to God and start listening to what God says."
For the first time, Rev. Loving will unveil "brown girl-ology," which serves as the fulcrum for the God is a Brown Girl Too philosophy. "God is a Brown Girl Too allows us to move beyond victimhood to victory." The 2009 Retreat helped start the process of cleansing the mind through release, restoring the heart through love, and upliftingthe soul through visualization. "Awakening to Love," Rev. Loving says, "takes its participants to a completely new level."
Rev. Loving is the founder of SPIRITMUV®, a non-denominational church in New York City. SPIRITMUV meets each Sunday from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. at the Unity Center of New York City, located at 213 West 58th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway.
As pastor of SPIRITMUV, Rev. Loving celebrates all spiritual teachings that are centered in love, which she believes are the heart of the teachings of Jesus Christ. Like SPIRITMUV, God is a Brown Girl Too, is grounded in the truth that Jesus taught -- that Kingdom of God is neither here nor there, it is within us.
"We are all just standing on the edge of greatness," Pastor Loving says. "God is a Brown Girl Too gives us the tools to step into our beauty, our strength and our power -- in order to do the work that we were called to do." Her 2009 book, Prayers For Those Standing on the Edge of Greatness, teaches how to make the first step in awakening to love -- by always centering in God first.
