Glidewell Laboratories Discontinues Digital Treatment Planning and Guided Surgery Services for Implant Cases

Glidewell Laboratories, industry-leading provider of dental lab products and services, announced today that it will discontinue its services for digital treatment planning and guided surgery for implant cases. The company introduced digital implant treatment planning to its customers in 2008, and it has experienced consistent revenue growth since that time. However, the complexity of current third-party digital treatment planning software programs and the prohibitive cost of surgical guides present significant obstacles to providing the reasonable fees that the dental lab’s customers have come to expect.

According to Glidewell’s Chief Operating Officer Greg Minzenmayer: “Our mission with digital implant planning, as with all of our services, is to reduce costs so more patients can afford care. Unfortunately, the current market structure around this exciting and beneficial technology does not allow for a quality, value-based solution.” Minzenmayer goes on to explain that Glidewell is working with a few innovative young companies that share its vision of providing clinicians with high-quality and cost-effective digital dental solutions.

“In cooperation with these companies, we are creating unique software applications that make planning easier and more intuitive, and the overall process more efficient,” says Grant Bullis, director of implant R&D at the lab. Bullis further explains that these joint efforts will result in improvements in the end-to-end process flow from the clinic to the lab, with the goal of reducing overall clinic and lab costs without compromising quality.

Even though Glidewell is choosing to discontinue these services at this time, “the laboratory continues to believe in the benefits of digital treatment planning,” says Minzenmayer, “
