Giant Eagle Expands Popular Generic Prescription Program and Now Offers '400 for $4'
Date:11/7/2007

Expansion makes regional retailer's $4 drug program the largest of its kind

CLEVELAND, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing to deliver upon its commitment to improving the health and wellness of its customers, supermarket retailer Giant Eagle, Inc. today announced that effective this Thursday, November 8, 2007, the company will expand its popular $4 generic prescription medication program drugs to a total of more than 400.

The program makes commonly prescribed dosages, of up to a 30-day supply, of participating generic drugs available to Giant Eagle Pharmacy customers for only $4. The company originally launched its $4 drug program in late 2006 with more than 300 drugs included. To date, the program has proven extremely successful, with tens of thousands of Giant Eagle pharmacy customers benefiting from the program.

"The expansion of Giant Eagle's program to include 400 drugs for $4 is the largest of its kind by a major retailer," said Vice President of Pharmacy Randy Heiser. "The generic medications included here are popular drugs that will help our customers, particularly senior citizens and those with families, live a healthy lifestyle."

The Giant Eagle $4 generic prescription medication program is an extension the company's ongoing focus to take costs out of its internal operations and to invest those savings into lower everyday prices for customers. The company originally launched its $4 generics program in late 2006 with more than 300 drugs included. To date the program has proven extremely successful, with thousands of Giant Eagle pharmacy customers benefiting from the program.

"The Giant Eagle generic drug program allows us to help our customers fight the rising costs associated with healthcare," Heiser added. "The program's expansion, coupled with a major price reduction on hundreds of drug store items in our health and beauty care aisles, ensures that we continue to deliver the best overall value to our customers."
