Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 23, 2014
As the push for marriage and family equality successfully spreads across the country, understanding the unique circumstances and special needs of LGBT family building has never been more important. To help lesbians pursue parenthood with knowledge and confidence, The American Fertility Association (The AFA) is hosting a free, educational event about pregnancy and family-building options for lesbians in Chicago.
For lesbian couples, not knowing legal and medical options can potentially result in unrealistic expectations, heart-wrenching legal battles, and excessive medical expenses. Maximizing the opportunity for a healthy, happy family requires a little bit of preparation.
Gay Women's Gathering will take place on Wednesday, August 6th, from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM at Women & Children First, located at 5233 N. Clark, Chicago, IL
60640. Faculty for the event include Dr. Laurence Jacobs of Fertility Centers of Illinois, Scott Brown of California Cryobank and Julie M. Tavoso of Law Offices of Julie M. Tavoso, LLC.
Critical information like deciding between a known or anonymous sperm donor, getting pregnant at home or in a doctor's office and understanding legal rights will be discussed by experts in a relaxed, conversational format.
"This is the seventh in our national series of informational gatherings specific to the needs of hopeful lesbian moms,” said Ken Mosesian, Executive Director of The AFA. “As the only inclusive, national fertility association committed to serving the LGBT community, we’ve worked hard to assemble a top-rate knowledgeable team of presenters to help this community."
"Making informed and educated decisions on having a child can protect the legal rights of lesbian families as well as conserve the financial and emotional resources necessary on this journey," says Dr. Laurence Jacobs with Fertility Centers of Illinois. "Our priority is to help build families safely and securely."
Dr. Jacobs has helped many lesbians have a family, including Dana and Kira Crosby. The couple shares their emotional journey to have son Maverick in a short video.
The evening is focused on the lesbian community, but all are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served and educational gift bags given to all participants.
Registration is preferred and seating is limited for this free educational evening. For more information and to reserve your seat please contact Corey Whelan at corey(at)theafa(dot)org or 718-853-1411.
