Gateway Health Plan is Top-Ranked Medicaid Plan in Pennsylvania
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recently released its third report on health plans, "U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America's Best Health Plans 2007."* Gateway Health Plan is ranked #12 among 196 Medicaid plans nationwide. It is the top-ranked Medicaid plan in Pennsylvania.
"Gateway Health Plan is extremely proud to once again be included among the best health plans in the nation," states Michael Blackwood, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gateway Health Plan, Inc. "We have worked to distinguish ourselves as the health plan with superior quality and service. Our employees and provider partners have worked very hard to provide quantitative evidence that we do indeed provide exceptional quality health care and customer service to our members."
The rankings were based on a combination of member satisfaction, clinical quality, and NCQA Accreditation scores. The scores are grouped in three categories:
Consumer Experience: Includes CAHPS(R) measures about consumer experience
with getting care, as well as satisfaction with plan physicians and with
health plan services.
Prevention: Includes HEDIS(R) measures of how often preventive services
are provided (e.g. childhood and adolescent immunizations, women's
reproductive health, and cancer screenings), as well as measures of
children and adolescents access to primary and preventive visits.
Treatment: Includes HEDIS measures of how well health plans take care of
people who have health problems, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease,
hypertension, osteoporosis, alcohol and drug dependence, mental illness
and whether physicians advised smokers to quit.
Dr. Robert Mirsky, VP/Chief Medical Officer, says, "These quality scores translate to tangible improvements in our members' health and the quality of health services they receive. If we can help our members receive better care to stay healthy or to improve their health, then we will be fulfilling the mission of Gateway Health Plan, which is a reward in itself."
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and recognizes physicians in key clinical areas. Its Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care. For more information on NCQA, visit http://www.ncqa.org.
