Garden Media Unveils 2013-14 Garden Trends: ‘Finding Bliss in the Garden’- Part 3

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) December 12, 2012

Garden Media Group, the leading public relations agency and trend spotters in the lawn and garden industry, is back with the third installment of the 2013-2014 garden trends report. The final ‘forces of nature’ range from light forces to inner forces, and the impact these forces have on people’s lives.

Check out these four important trends that Susan McCoy and her team see on the horizon in the garden:

Light Forces: Sunlight allows flowers to exude a magical glow but people are now installing unique light features and growing reflective plants as to enjoy gardens at night, too. Homes are displaying up-lighting, down-lighting, and low-energy features for creative garden displays. Public and private gardens are experimenting at night by hiring artists to create mesmerizing lighting mixed with plant beds and arrangements.

“A natural and sustainable way to make your garden pop at night is to add white plants and bulbs. The moon provides enough natural lighting to allow the plants to glisten under its reflection,” says McCoy.

Inner Forces: People inherently want to be outdoors and in nature. Busy, everyday events prevent that, so the trend for gardening both indoors and out has been on the rise. Plants have been proven to provide mental and physical rehabilitation; being “in nature” promotes healing and increases concentration. Live indoor houseplants add instant green beauty, freshen up spaces, reduce stress, speed healing, lower blood pressure and bring peace of mind.

“Indoor plants like peace lilies, palms and orchids scrub the air clean of toxins so we can breathe healthier. Plus year-round beauty brightens any space,” says Marta Maria Garcia, marketing director from Costa Farms®, who initiated O2forYou, a public service campaign designed to educate people on the health benefits of indoor plants.

Having a plant in a round, terracotta pot is not the only option. The popularity of living walls has expanded the opportunities in which homeowners can use houseplants. This year, pots hanging upside down from the ceiling, mini LED gardens, air plants, and flowerpots on walls have all been popular.

Micro Forces: Miniature anything in gardening is hot because of the teeny size, low- maintenance and appeal, but they also make the perfect gift. Miniature plants from Costa Farms® are as small as 2 inches and come in a variety of containers to choose from. Popular types include various succulents, cacti, and bamboo.

“Anyone can be surrounded by nature anywhere with these miniature plants and gardens. Terrariums and meditation gardens are perfect for desks and work spaces. You could even create a mini garden in a container for a small patio or porch,” explains McCoy.

Shared Forces: The new shareable economy is giving rise to an emerging collaborative 21st century lifestyle. From shared living spaces to shared gardens, this cultural shift is gaining steam.

“Community gardens, CSA’s and farmers markets are becoming our new grocery stores, where we go for fresh produce and good company,” says McCoy.

McCoy says anyone can channel the forces of nature to find happiness in the garden. She suggests turning gardening tasks, like weeding and watering, into a Zen experience, creating a backyard retreat that offers a place of serenity and bliss and filling the home and office with live plants. “Nature has given us the tools to find happiness in ordinary living things,” she says.
