Outcomes Researcher and Translation Specialist Barbara Gandek Joins

QualityMetric Incorporated

LINCOLN, R.I., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its continuing commitment to international research, QualityMetric today announced that Barbara Gandek, MS has accepted the position of Senior Scientist and Director of International Research & Development. Gandek will report to James E. Dewey, PhD, Chief Innovation & Research Officer and continue to work closely with her colleague of 19 years, John E. Ware Jr., PhD, QualityMetric's founder and CEO.

During her career, Gandek has authored or co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, many of which fostered the development of health outcomes measurement around the world. Barbara spearheaded the ongoing effort to translate the entire suite of adult SF Health Surveys for use in more than 75 countries and co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology that summarized the work of the International Quality of Life Assessment (IQOLA) Project in the 1990's. She has also been involved in the development of five of the SF manuals, including the most recently published "User's Manual for the SF-36v2 Health Survey - Second Edition."

"QualityMetric is recommitting itself to fostering international outcomes research and to developing additional norms for countries outside the U.S.," says Ware. "No one is better qualified to lead this effort than Barbara."

For years, Gandek worked closely with her colleagues at QualityMetric as a Scientist and Director at the Health Assessment Lab (HAL). Before this, she worked at New England Medical Center's Health Institute, primarily on the IQOLA Project and the Medical Outcomes Study. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Swarthmore College and a Master of Science in Health Policy & Management from Harvard School of Public Health. Ms. Gandek is an Instructor at Tufts University School of Medicine. '/>"/>
