GSA confers 2007 Joseph T. Freeman Award to University of Maryland's Goldberg
Date:11/13/2007

Andrew P. Goldberg of the University of Maryland at Baltimore has been chosen by The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) to receive its 2007 Joseph T. Freeman Award. This honor, given annually, is a lectureship in geriatrics and is awarded to a prominent physician in the field of aging - both in research and practice - who is a member of the Society's Clinical Medicine section.

The award presentation will take place at GSA's 60th Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held from November 16th - 20th, 2007 in San Francisco, CA. The actual conferral will occur on Sunday the 18th at 1:15 p.m. at the Hilton San Francisco. The convention is organized to foster interdisciplinary interactions among clinical, administrative, and research professionals who specialize in the study of the aging process.

Goldberg has made important contributions to the field of exercise, diet, and metabolism in aging and is an internationally recognized authority in this area. He was also instrumental in developing the programs in geriatrics and gerontology at the University of Maryland.

The Freeman Award was established in 1977 through a bequest from a patient's estate as a tribute to Joseph T. Freeman, a leading physician and one of the Society's distinguished members and past presidents. The winner traditionally presents a lecture at the Annual Scientific Meeting the following year.
