GNC Helps to Raise Over $300,000 for National MS Society in First 30 Days of 'Ride Across America' by Phil Keoghan of CBS' The Amazing Race
Date:5/1/2009

Groundswell of support by customers backs grueling effort by Emmy-winning TV star

PITTSBURGH, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- During the first month of Phil Keoghan's 40-day bike ride across the United States, GNC customers have donated more than $300,000 to the National MS Society and its Bike MS program in support of Keoghan's new Ride Across America Presented by GNC, which kicked off in Los Angeles on March 28 and will end on May 9 in New York City (the day before the finale of his Emmy Award-winning show The Amazing Race 14).

GNC is the main sponsor of Keoghan's 100-mile-a-day ride, which he says is one of the most physical and grueling challenges he's ever taken.

"This is not a stunt," said Keoghan as he pedaled through the Alleghany Mountains into Pittsburgh, GNC's corporate headquarters. "Symptoms of MS are unpredictable and range from blurry vision, memory loss and loss of mobility. Every hour someone new is diagnosed. And we can all help!"

"All of us at GNC are thrilled with the response of GNC's loyal customers to Phil's commitment to this important cause," says Tom Dowd, Executive Vice President, Stores, Operations & Development for GNC. "What Phil is proving every day on his ride is that individuals can make a difference in their lives and in their communities when they Live Well. Phil's putting in the miles for the National MS Society - now it's time for the rest of us to step up to the plate and support the search for an MS cure."

Amazing Race fans can meet up with Keoghan at any of his remaining stops in Ride Across America at these GNC stores:

  • May 1: GNC Headquarters, 550 Wood Street, Pittsburgh, PA
  • May 2: Robinson Town Center, Pittsburgh, PA
