GECKO Founder to Race 135 Miles Across Death Valley in the Badwater Ultramarathon to Raise Funds and Awareness for New Nonprofit Dedicated to Helping Kids Get Outdoors

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- On July 13, 2009, founder of GECKO and ultra runner, Morgan Murri, will run the Badwater Ultramarathon across Death Valley to raise awareness and funds for his non-profit organization, GECKO, whose outdoor scholarships are intended to get kids "unplugged, off the couch and outside." As one of just 89 participants invited, Murri will take on Badwater and test his physical limits for a greater good.

GECKO, Giving Every Child Knowledge of the Outdoors, was inspired by the transformation that founder, Morgan Murri witnessed in his daughter following her participation in the National Outdoor Leadership School. "I run for something bigger than myself, GECKO is the purpose behind why I run now," says Murri.

Murri sought an opportunity to give back to today's youth. "The profound, positive impact the outdoors has played in our lives is an opportunity many kids are missing today. Our mission at GECKO is to connect children to the outdoors. I pit myself against incredible challenges to show kids that if you believe in yourself anything is possible," explains Murri.

Money raised through Murri's participation in this epic run will fund GECKO scholarships. The funds raised at this year's Badwater race will go to sponsor children at the Wild Pagosa Outdoor Education Program. For $135 ($1 per mile), a child can connect with nature for an entire week and develop an appreciation for the natural world. You can find out how you can donate here.
