Frisco Institute for Reproductive Medicine Welcomes China Research Team

Frisco, TX (PRWEB) March 21, 2013

The [Frisco Institute for Reproductive Medicine (FIRM) recently welcomed a team of 18 international researchers to its facility for an advanced course in human embryology. The guest researchers, coming from some of the most prestigious embryology programs in China, were invited to learn about the newest advancements in assisted reproduction and observe FIRM’s state-of-the-art in vitro fertilization laboratory.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the process by which assisted reproduction specialists can deposit fertilized eggs (embryos) into the uterus of a patient with fertility issues. In order for IVF to be a successful as possible, embryologists need to maintain very specific conditions in the laboratory to make sure that the health of the embryo is preserved during the first few days of development, and while it is in the culture media. The IVF laboratory at FIRM is regarded as one of the most sophisticated in the world, and the Chinese team hopes to learn about FIRM’s standards for equipment and environment control at its facility.

Coming from some of the most esteemed embryology programs in Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing, the 18 researchers boast a combined experience with over 50,000 IVF cycles. This equates to more than one-third of the 140,000 total IVF cycles that were performed in the entire U.S. in 2011. According to FIRM’s medical director, Dr. Rinku Mehta, the China team will be able to learn about the Frisco facility’s “state of the ART laboratory, air filtration, and embryo culture systems”. All of the practical and theoretical instruction will be performed by FIRM’s on-staff team of scientists, headed by Scientific Director Dr. Marius Meintjes, who is internationally regarded as one of embryology’s preeminent authorities.

FIRM’s guest embryologists will also learn about some of the newest developments in embryo observation, such as Embryonic Imaging Technology. This technology allows embryologists to view a real-time visual representation of an embryo’s initial growth after fertilization by assembling pictures taken at 5-minute intervals over a 6-day period into a single video. The Chinese team will have the privilege of being one of only a handful of embryology teams – along with the FIRM team - that have experimented with such technology.

FIRM scientists have maintained a strong relationship with their Chinese affiliates over the years and are eager to share their expertise with the guest researchers. “It is a source of great pride to all of us here at [FIRM] to host embryologists from the most prominent fertility centers in China” Dr. Mehta went on to say. “We are honored to share our knowledge and proven methods of success in the IVF laboratory”. FIRM will reconnect with the Chinese team again when Dr. Meintjes visits Shanghai and Chongqing later this year where he has been invited to lead a series of lectures on embryology.

Based in Frisco, TX, The Frisco Institute for Reproductive Medicine is determined to make pregnancy possible for hopeful parents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. As a highly successful fertility treatment center, FIRM features some of the most internationally esteemed scientists and physicians in the field of assisted reproduction, many of whom have been regularly featured in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Visit to see how FIRM can help you begin your family.
