WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Friends of the World Food Program (Friends of WFP) today welcomed the launch of World Hunger Relief Week, a global consumer campaign that will benefit the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). World Hunger Relief Week is spearheaded by Yum! Brands, the world's largest restaurant company in terms of system units with approximately 35,000 restaurants in more than 110 countries and territories and parent of the KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver's and A&W All-American Food Restaurants brands.
The campaign, which will run from October 14th through October 20th, will increase awareness about hunger, engage volunteers, and raise critically needed funds to help WFP serve the world's areas of greatest need.
"This unprecedented and innovative campaign brings together the public and private sector to address one of the most pressing issues of our time: the world's hunger crisis," said Friends of WFP President and CEO Karen Sendelback. "Hunger is a global concern and an issue that faces each of us no matter where we live and work. Through World Hunger Relief Week, we can all make a difference to stop world hunger."
"With the World Food Program, Yum! Brands has the right partner to make a significant change to leave the world a better place than we found it," said Yum! Brands Chairman and CEO David C. Novak. "I am very proud of our commitment to collectively save lives."
The funds collected during World Hunger Relief Week through in-store promotions and online donations will help feed thousands of families around the world. A donation of just $1.00 feeds five children for a day. Yum! Brands' goal is to raise enough funds to help WFP feed at least 500,000 children, their mothers, fathers and many others.
