Fresh Air Campaign to Showcase Minnesotans' Love of Smoke-Free Air

New marketing campaign celebrates Freedom to Breathe Act

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Today marks the beginning of a new marketing campaign designed to educate and excite Minnesotans about the Freedom to Breathe Act, the statewide smoke-free law that goes into effect on October 1. The new law will make all indoor workplaces smoke-free, including bars, restaurants and private clubs. Called Fresh Air, the multimedia campaign is sponsored by ClearWay Minnesota(SM). The majority of the campaign will run from September 10 through mid-November.

Viewers will be introduced to the Fresh Air campaign through a new television ad that celebrates Minnesotans' love of the outdoors and the benefit of bringing fresh air indoors. "All Minnesotans love fresh air; in fact, many of us travel hours up north just to enjoy it," said Jerry Fury, Vice President Creative Director at Clarity Coverdale Fury, Inc., the advertising agency that produced the campaign. "Fresh Air celebrates how we will soon be able to enjoy that fresh Minnesota air in all indoor spaces as well as outdoor ones."

Fresh Air will also be heard on the radio and seen in restroom ads and at http://www.freshairmn.org. The radio ads will also remind Minnesotans about ClearWay Minnesota's QUITPLAN(R) Services. October 1 will be a great day for smokers to try and quit, and quit-smoking services are available to any Minnesotan who wants help through QUITPLAN Services by calling 1-888-354-PLAN (7526) or visiting http://www.quitplan.com. "The Freedom to Breathe Act will improve the health of Minnesotans," said David Willoughby, Chief Executive Officer of ClearWay Minnesota. "October 1 is not only a great day to start enjoying smoke-free bars and restaurants in Minnesota, but it's a great day to try to quit smoking through the free help QUITPLAN Services offers."

In addition to the ads, Fresh Air materials for business owners are being distributed through a partnership with local health organizations around the state. Materials include signs and information about the new law to assist business owners in becoming smoke-free.
