Free Wheelchair Mission Listed by Ministry Watch as 'Top 30' Shining Light Exemplary Ministry for 2008

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM) is named in Top 30 Shining Light Ministries for 2008 by Ministry Watch, an online database which profiles the largest churches and Christian organizations in the United States. A ministry aimed at bringing improved levels of disclosure and accountability to Christian ministries, Ministry Watch has a complete listing of the Top 30 Shining Light Ministries at

Ministry Watch used an assessment that looked at the following seven areas when considering the list of Top 30 Shining Light Ministries: (1) Transparency, (2) Truth Claims, (3) Values, (4) Sectors/Functions, (5) Resourcefulness, (6) Red Flag Issues, and (7) Consultation. Ministries were chosen that were not just marketing to Christians as a market segment for "Christian donor money," but ministries that had theological underpinnings and Biblical values that determined their actions.

"It's not only an honor to be highlighted as one of the top thirty Shining Light Ministries, but a demonstration of how others recognize the need for wheelchairs for the disabled poor," Don Schoendorfer, President and Founder of Free Wheelchair Mission commented.

About Free Wheelchair Mission: Free Wheelchair Mission is an international, faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free wheelchairs for the impoverished disabled in developing nations. Partnering with a vast network of humanitarian, government and faith-based groups, FWM has distributed over 400,000 wheelchairs to more than 70 countries. Designed to be rugged, durable and inexpensive, the FWM wheelchair costs only $59.20 each to manufacture, deliver and distribute.

New Wheelchair Design In Progress: President and Founder, Dr. Don Schoendorfer, Ph.D., unveiled the new design of the Free Wheelchair Mission wheelchair, Gen_2, in July 2009, which is currently being manufactured and scheduled for distribution in Peru this fall. The introduction of the Gen_2 design will allow FWM to better serve our children and special needs recipients, and is a most positive step in an even more benevolent and humane direction.
