Free Early Education Program to Lower Infertility Rates

FREE Manicures & Martinis at Dashing Diva

NEW YORK, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Young women may not be quite ready to have a baby now, but they should be seeking the answers to essential questions that may determine if they'll be able to have a baby when they are ready. The best time to seek these answers? For women in their 20s, infertility prevention is often ignored until it's too late. Most young women have been taught to do everything possible to keep from getting pregnant without thinking about the possibility of having children in the future.

-- 7.3 million American women have difficulty conceiving a child.

-- There are things women can do to help prevent infertility.

-- The American Fertility Association is raising awareness through a cutting-edge infertility prevention program.

Fact: The biological clock is real.

Question: How fast does it tick?

Fact: Exposure to certain STDs and environmental toxins compromise fertility.

Question: What are they?

Fact: There often comes a time when a woman should move from her OB/GYN to a fertility specialist.

Question: When is that time?

The challenge is that most young women will not attend a fertility conference or even visit a doctor's office to ask these very important questions and have them answered. The American Fertility Association is providing a solution, free of charge, to any young woman who wishes to give an hour of her time -- an hour that could change her entire life.

Manicures & Martinis kicks off at 6 p.m., January 27, at Dashing Diva nail salon in Manhattan's Gramercy Park. Jamie Grifo, M.D., Ph.D., of NYU School of Medicine will be the featured speaker at this inaugural event. Women who are at least 21 years old are invited to enjoy a complimentary manicure and martini while having a conversation with Dr. Grifo on simple steps that can be taken now to enhance the chances of conceiving later. We'll also be serving the Fertilitini(TM) -- an organic, alcohol-free specialty drink whose recipe is the result of a contest. Manicures & Martinis is expected to roll through approximately 20 U.S. cities in 2009. This event is possible thanks to an unrestricted educational grant from Schering-Plough and NYU Fertility Center. Women interested in attending should email Corey Whelan at Corey@theafa.org or call 718.853.1411.
