ARLINGTON, Va., April 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former White House Drug Czar, Four-Star General Barry McCaffrey (Ret), will highlight Vanguard Services Substance Abuse Treatment Centers' Breakthrough Breakfast with state, county, and local political and drug abuse treatment leaders and will speak at the 8 a.m. event at the Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington. The address is 3017 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207.

Dignitaries in addition to Gen. McCaffrey will include State Senator Mary Margaret Whipple, State Senator Patsy Ticer, State Delegate Bob Brink, Arlington County Sheriff Beth Arthur, Arlington County Treasurer Frank O'Leary, County Board members Walter Tejada and Jay Fisette, Commonwealth's Attorney Richard Trodden, School Board member Emma Violand-Sanchez, several other former members of Va. General Assembly, as well as current candidates.

Gen. McCaffrey stated, "Vanguard, founded in 1962, is a leading national model program in treating drug abuse as a health problem and removing the stigma of addiction. Over 35,000 have been served since its founding. They treat over 800 men, women, adolescents, and their families each year in outpatient, residential, and transitional programs. Programs like Vanguard are the best way to reduce the national drug treatment gap. There are 23 million chronic drug abusers across the country according to HHS, but only four million now get treatment."
