Former Mayor of Indianapolis to Serve as a Senior Strategic Advisor to McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP's Global Infrastructure Finance and Public-Private Partnerships Practice
Date:12/9/2008

WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) is pleased to announce that Stephen Goldsmith, former two term Mayor of Indianapolis, is teaming with MLA's Global Infrastructure Finance and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) practice as a senior strategic advisor and an independent consultant counseling on public-private partnerships and infrastructure related issues in the transportation, energy, health care and technology industries. Goldsmith holds an international reputation as a leader in creative and innovative public-private partnership arrangements--and while Mayor, for implementing government innovations for transforming the delivery of city services. His efforts to revitalize urban neighborhoods through creating partnerships with community organizations have been held up as a national model of successful public-private partnership arrangements.

In addition to his role as an independent consultant, Goldsmith serves as the Daniel Paul Professor of Government at Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, where he directs the Innovations in American Government Program. In his new position, Goldsmith is going to support the efforts of the MLA team as an independent consultant and senior strategic advisor with a focus on structuring and executing public-private partnership arrangements and teams. "Mayor Goldsmith's experience as a public official and a finance attorney, who successfully executed public-private partnerships, further enables our practice to provide our clients with financial, public policy and procurement insight to support future business opportunities," said Frank Rapoport, Chair of MLA's PPP practice. He will be a tremendous asset to not only our team of lawyers and policy advisors, but the firm as a whole."

In addition to his work with MLA, Goldsmith also serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Manhattan Institute's Center for Civic Innovation and as Chairman of the Corporation for National and Community Service. In addition, Goldsmith is an author, his new book Governing by Network the New Shape of the Public Sector, according to Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell "answers one of the most important public policy questions of our time: how public officials can achieve results and ensure accountability to citizens in an age in which government relies more an more on partners to do the public's business. This comes at a time when the pressure on government to deliver better service for less money has become intense."

As a firm, MLA is focused on the intersection of government and business. Our PPP practice is grounded in the combination of our government affairs expertise, government contracts background and transactional experience. Our team has been involved with large government contracts and project finance developments and have held senior level positions in the executive and legislative branches of federal, state and local government. In addition, team members includes a founder of the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships and chairs of the public contract finance and the privatization committees of the American Bar Association. This blend of experience offers our clients a unique perspective that is often critical in forming PPP relationships and resolving issues involving government.
