For Mother's Day, Pulmonary Hypertension Association Highlights Moms Juggling Parenting and Their Own Serious Lung Disease
Date:5/3/2013

Silver Spring, MD (PRWEB) May 03, 2013

Parenting is stressful. Errands, school, kids' activities, meals—it’s enough to make any mother feel a little winded by life. Mothers with a rare and serious lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, have found ways to be active and attentive parents even though walking up a flight of stairs can cause them to pass out. They may be planning family vacations even while trying to anticipate their next emergency room visit.

Mothers with PH in Massachusetts, Ohio, Colorado, Arizona and other states have found ways to juggle parenthood while also managing complex medications: multiple doctors’ appointments; hospital visits; and the frequent shortness of breath and dizziness associated with pulmonary hypertension. Their stories are inspiring ones to share with your audience for Mother’s Day.

Pulmonary hypertension is a serious, life-threatening disease. It is high blood pressure in the vessels between the heart and the lungs, and it can lead to heart failure. It often affects women of childbearing age. For most PH patients, receiving a pulmonary hypertension diagnosis is terrifying. For parents with PH, this includes the fear that they may not live to see their children grow up.

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association can arrange interviews with mothers with PH and health care professionals expert in treating this disease. PHA can also provide coping tips from our upcoming publication for children who have an adult with PH in the family.
