DESCRIPTION: Nutritious, abundantly available food is something that many take for granted. When food is plentiful, the choice of selecting foods from a local supplier or limiting purchases to food produced using an acceptable level of organic production methods or minimal processing becomes the norm. However, predictions of significant world population growth in the near future may profoundly affect how food is viewed. The luxury of selecting food for acceptable production methods or locality is likely to be replaced with concerns regarding availability and preventing waste. How does food safety fit into a changing landscape for food security in the future? How can waste be eliminated, yet prevent an increase in overall foodborne disease? The food safety concerns of the future are expected to undergo parallel evolution as priorities shift to finding enough food. This conference will seek to address those issues through the thoughts and predictions of internationally acclaimed experts as we prepare for the food safety issues of the future.
On November 6, 2014, nutrition and food science researchers, agricultural policymakers will gather to discuss issues of food security, economics, policy and communication related to food safety at "Food Safety Considerations for Innovative Nutrition Solutions."
