Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute Receives Echocardiography Accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission
Date:8/26/2014

(PRWEB) August 26, 2014

Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute’s Non-Invasive Cardiology program has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in Echocardiography for Adult Transthoracic by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). There are currently less than 40 hospitals within the state of Florida that have been awarded the IAC accreditation.

“Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the United States. On average, one American dies approximately every 39 seconds of cardiovascular diseases – which are disorders of the heart and blood vessels,” says Evon Hampton, RDCS, RCIS, FASE, who is the Director of Cardiology at Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute. “Echocardiography procedures are a vital means to providing early and accurate detection of potentially life threatening congenital disorders and early detection of heart valve problems.”

Earning IAC accreditation required a thorough review of operational and technical components by a panel of experts. “Accreditation is granted only to those facilities with proven track records of quality patient care and outcomes in conjunction with national standards, says Dr. Charles Lambert, Medical Director Pepin Heart Institute and Dr. Kiran C. Patel Research Institute. “This is further validation for our patients that we have been carefully critiqued on all aspects of our process by medical experts in the field of echocardiology,” he concluded. For more than 20 years, Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute has been committed to providing the best cardiovascular care to patients across the country. The institute’s nationally recognized research findings in atrial fibrillation, stem cell research, genomics and gene therapy give patients access to groundbreaking treatments before they’re available anywhere else.

IAC accreditation is widely respected within the medical community, as illustrated by the support of the national medical societies related to Echocardiography, which include physicians and sonographers. Echocardiography accreditation is required in some states and regions by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and by some private insurers.
