Fitness for All Ages and Stages of Life: Wellbeats Virtual, On-Demand Fitness App Now Available in Apple App Store
Date:12/5/2018

A well-known name in the world of gyms and fitness centers is bringing its original, engaging, personalized fitness content to the masses. Wellbeats, which has delivered on-demand, virtual fitness programming to employers, gyms and fitness centers, and other commercial clients, has released a new Wellbeats consumer app. Available now in the Apple App Store, the Wellbeats app is fitness that fits for people of all ages and stages of life.

“People are increasingly realizing that fitness is an important part of physical and emotional well-being,” said Jason Von Bank, president and CEO of Wellbeats. “With the Wellbeats app, people can get virtual classes tailored to their interests, age, and fitness level without having to plan their lives around gym schedules or personal trainers. Virtual fitness removes barriers to getting and staying active by giving users anytime access to content that works for their individual needs.”

Based in St. Louis Park, MN, Wellbeats is a content and software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that produces original fitness content using real-life coaches and trainers who are athletes with expertise in a variety of fitness styles. For example, Olympian and nationally celebrated distance runner Carrie Tollefson serves as Run Lead & Coach for a new running channel that Wellbeats will introduce in 2019.

Wellbeats classes cover a wide range of exercise activities, from quick stretching breaks to high-intensity workouts, and the app will recommend the most appropriate workout based on personal insights. Other highlights include:

  • Time-saving workouts of 15 minutes or less;
  • Classes for all ages, from Silver & Fit seniors to purposeful play classes designed for children as young as 3;
  • Classes designed to get kids ready for sports;
  • Popular pre- and post-natal exercise classes; and
  • In-demand classes like cycling, Zumba, circuit training, and yoga.

Wellbeats got its start 10 years ago when a group of gym owners noticed members bringing in their own workout videos and creating a “gym within a gym” in their clubs’ multi-purpose rooms. The company started selling kiosks and video content to other gym owners, then shifted its focus in 2014 to a SaaS-based platform. In addition to the new app, Wellbeats is now available to consumers through 2,300 commercial clients – including employers, health plans, gyms or fitness centers, apartments and multi-family housing, and colleges and universities – in 50 states and 19 countries.

“Three quarters of adults say being in shape is ‘very important,’ yet fewer than one third exercise regularly. On-demand, virtual fitness removes barriers to fitness, but most of the options previously available to consumers are either hyper-focused on a specific type of exercise or so broad that users can’t dial in content based on their personal fitness level or goals,” said Von Bank. “The Wellbeats app allows users to customize workouts and will ‘learn’ and serve up content over time that is increasingly relevant and appealing to each individual user.”

According to Von Bank, Wellbeats currently averages 2.5 million activity minutes per month, and engaged users record an average of 212 activity minutes per month. That speaks to the sticking power of on-demand, virtual fitness.
