Fisher House Foundation Gets Sixth Consecutive “Four-Star” Rating from Charity Navigator
Date:5/6/2010

Coveted Rating Puts Fisher House in Top 3% of All Charities Nationwide

New York (PRWEB) May 6, 2010 -- Fisher House Foundation today announced it had received the coveted “Four-Star” rating for sound fiscal management from Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier charity-rating agency. This is the sixth consecutive 4-star rating bestowed upon Fisher House Foundation, which was cited by Charity Navigator for its exceptional ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances.

“Only 3% of the charities we rate have received at least six consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Fisher House Foundation consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America,” wrote Ken Berger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charity Navigator, in a letter to Fisher House Foundation. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Fisher House Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

“In this, our 20th anniversary year, we are both humbled and proud that the work we have done has again been recognized by our nation’s premier charity-rating agency, under their stringent, data-driven analysis,” said Ken Fisher, Chairman of Fisher House Foundation. “In a world where our military and their families are asked to sacrifice so much for our freedom, saying ‘thanks for your service’ is simply not enough. It is our duty as Americans to make sure they are well cared for when they most need it.”

Forbes, Business Week, and Kiplinger's Financial Magazine and others have celebrated Charity Navigator’s unique method of applying data-driven analysis to the charitable sector. Charity Navigator evaluate ten times more charities than its nearest competitor and currently attract more visitors to its website than all other charity rating groups combined, thus making it the leading charity evaluator in America. Charity Navigator’s irrefutable data shows that users of its site gave more than they planned to before viewing its findings. It is estimated that last year Charity Navigator influenced over $10 billion in charitable gifts.

About Fisher House Foundation (www.fisherhouse.org)
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time, during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves nearly 12,000 families, and have made available nearly three million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Fisher House Foundation uses donations to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House.

In addition to constructing new houses, Fisher House Foundation continues to support existing Fisher Houses and help individual military families in need. The Foundation is also proud to administer and sponsor Scholarships for Military Children, the Hero Miles program, Team Fisher House, and co-sponsor the Newman's Own Award.
