Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 29, 2009 -- As citizens search to protect themselves from the flu viruses that are rapidly spreading, one of the best protections may actually be right under our nose. FDNSC, a Tampa company has designed a new product that stops viral droplets from being inhaled, adding another much needed layer of prevention against the flu viruses.

After Certified Testing First Defense Nasal Screens (FDNS) have been recently proven to reduce particulate air matter >90% at 1(µm) and > 99% at 10 (µm) or higher (which covers most flu respiratory droplet sizes, thus greatly reducing exposure to airborne droplets and many types of flu). To understand how this product works first you need to know the following flu facts:

Flu Facts From Parker A. Small Jr. MD, Professor Emeritus, University of Florida College of Medicine

"Q. What does flu infect?

A. Flu infects the cells lining the nose, trachea and lung. It does NOT normally get into the blood or infect cells lining the mouth, esophagus, stomach or intestines.

Q. How does flu spread?

A. Direct contact- someone gets virus on their hand and spreads it to their nose or eyes. Frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizers stops this spread.

Or by Droplets -

Large droplets - fall to the ground within five to ten feet, but if coughed directly onto you, they can be inhaled and infect the nose. It is unclear whether these droplets can infect the nose by entering through the eye (that's why the question about glasses).

Small droplets (droplet nuclei 1-5 microns) - stay in the air for hours. If inhaled, they can infect the nose, trachea or lung. Many scientists think this is the most common method of spread.

Q. How should you treat flu?

A. See your doctor as soon as possible. He/she can prescribe an antiviral medication that speeds recovery IF GIVEN IN THE FIRST DAY OR TWO, of illness. Ask your doctor about a cough suppressant.

Drink lots of fluids so you stay hydrated.

Rest - This decreases deep breathing and spread to your lungs.

Stay in a warm environment. This keeps the cells lining your nose and trachea as warm as possible, which decreases virus growth.

Take acetaminophen, such as Tylenol, for muscle aches and pain, but not for a low grade fever. It is helping to fight the virus."

Prevention is the key, First Defense Nasal Screens are individual nasal passage covers made of 100% breathable non-latex, skin-safe material designed to help protect against the inhalation of airborne particles and other dangerous airborne contaminants into nasal passages sized 1 micron or larger.

First Defense Nasal Screens are sealable nasal screens that are non inserted, simple to apply, safe and discrete. Since the screen is sealed around your nasal opening, no unfiltered air can be inhaled as long as you breathe thorough your nose. The wearer can still exhale and speak normally through the mouth, as long as all air is inhaled through the nose.

Wearing these nasal covers over the nasal openings will reduce respiratory exposure to viral respiratory droplets, germs, influenza, colds, bacteria, dust, pollen, pollutants, contaminants, secondhand smoke and inhaled carcinogens. With efficiencies of over 90% on micron sizes as low as 1 (µm) and even lower these filters add another option in this fight for cleaner, healthier air.

Added to a combined effort of hand washing and other recommended precautions the world stands a much better chance of slowing the spread of this virus with these inexpensive nasal screens. Bringing much needed hope for everyone.

From The Web Site (www.nasalscreens.com):

First Defense Nasal Screens, the newest breakthrough in personal air filtration. Our mission is to help alleviate respiratory suffering by comfortably filtering nasally-inhaled air and removing airborne germs, allergens and/or noxious particles. Through our product, we hope to educate people about the harms of pollutants and contaminants while working to rid the world of these inhaled poisons.

First Defense Nasal Screens are manufactured right here in the United States. We pride ourselves as being both environmentally and economically aware of the world in which we live.'
