Firefly Wireless Digital Otoscopes and Wireless Dermatoscopes Take off in Telemedicine

It may not be a household name yet, but more and more organizations are talking about the next big step in healthcare: Telemedicine. Telemedicine is removing the barriers of entry for people in rural areas without access to advanced healthcare. Patients several hours away from the nearest hospital can now see a doctor, or specialist at a local telemedicine center, mobile clinic, or even in a pharmacy through video conferencing and advanced monitoring software. But in order for these newly minted services to get up-and-running, they need affordable, advanced medical video cameras such as digital video otoscopes and digital dermatoscopes which is where Firefly comes in.

One such group, Vicwest Community Telco, started their Telemedicine efforts after the Australian Government launched its Telehealth initiative. Gareth Hagebols of Community Telco had this to say:
"We're deploying Firefly devices throughout rural Australia as part of our Telemedicine program. They have an ideal solution for remote locations due to their size, picture clarity and cost."

Another organization, Be Like Brit, is running an orphanage and providing healthcare to the children of Haiti. Scott Johnson, the Director of Communications at the Disaster Medicine & Emergency Management Fellowship at Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, said, “Firefly has created great tools to provide telemedicine consultations from the Be Like Brit orphanage in Haiti to doctors anywhere around the world.
