Finding a Dentist Can Be Easier Than You Think
Date:7/31/2009

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Are you looking for a new dentist? Perhaps you moved to a new area or your dentist is retiring? The search for a new dentist can be both time consuming and stressful, but, it doesn't have to be. The Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) can help.

Visit PDA's Web site at www.padental.org/findadentist and use the search tool to find a PDA member dentist in your area. You can search by city, county, zip code and dental specialty. PDA recommends asking family, friends, neighbors, coworkers or your current dentist, physician or local pharmacist for recommendations.

As you continue your search for a new dentist, PDA suggests asking the following questions:

  • Does the dentist accept your insurance plan?
  • Is the appointment schedule convenient for you? Do they offer evening/weekend appointments?
  • Is the office in close proximity to your home or job?
  • Upon visiting the office, does the office appear clean and organized?

Above all, it is important that you are comfortable with your dentist.

"Your dentist is your oral health partner," said Dr. Bruce Terry, a PDA member and endodontist from Wayne. "Patients should feel that their dentist is not only skilled but also friendly. Before ever leaving a dentist, one should try to speak with the provider and explain their concerns. Many dentists are only too happy to accommodate your needs."

By selecting a PDA member dentist, you'll know that your dentist is committed to the Patient Bill of Rights. To view the complete Patient Bill of Rights, go to www.padental.org, click on the "Patients" tab and then click on "PDA Dental Patient Bill of Rights." This document also is available in Spanish.

If you are a senior in need of free or low-cost dental care, you may be eligible for PDA's Senior Dental Care Program (SDCP). More than 1,000 dentists have participated in this voluntary program, which enables many seniors to obtain affordable dental care and helps them enjoy good oral health and well-being. For more information on PDA's SDCP, including an online referral request form, go to www.padental.org/sdcp.

If you are in need of free or reduced-cost oral health care, but do not meet the SDCP eligibility requirements, visit PDA's Web site at www.padental.org/clinicdirectory. This online directory is searchable by county and contains detailed information on free or reduced-fee dental clinics, such as location and contact information, hours of operation, services provided, patient eligibility criteria, fees and area(s) served.

For more information on oral health topics of interest to patients, visit www.padental.org/patientinformation.
