Filters Fast Advocates Use of Filtered Water Bottles for Environmental and Personal Health
Date:7/7/2008

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Most of us opt for bottled water as an alternative to guzzling tap water, and its potential contaminants, while on the go. Now Filters Fast (http://www.filtersfast.com), retailer of air and water filters, offers a more cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative with its new reusable filtered water bottles. Users can simply fill the bottles from a tap or water fountain, and the bottles will filter the water as they drink.

"Many conventional plastics are non-biodegradable and those that are take between 450 to 1,000 years to decompose," said Ray Scardigno, president of Filters Fast. "Only a fraction of plastic water bottles are recycled. But it's not safe to drink tap water because the Environmental Working Group has found that the tap water in 42 states is contaminated with more than 140 unregulated chemicals. Using a filtered bottle both preserves your health and significantly reduces your negative impact on the environment."

Available in 16-ounce and 27-ounce sizes, the filtered water bottles feature a built-in filter cartridge that attaches to the cap of the bottle and removes chlorine, bad tastes and odors, as well as heavy metals such as lead, mercury and copper. The 16-ounce bottle can easily fit into purses or bags while the larger sized bottle fits bicycle racks and standard car cup holders. Users can easily take the bottles along to the gym, on biking or hiking excursions, or just to the office.

"Many of the other filtered water bottles on the market are for specific purposes such as international travel or emergency use," said Scardigno. "The Filters Fast bottles are for everyday use, and they are made from safe plastics that are completely BPA free. That means consumers never have to worry about toxins leaching into their water." Many makers of drinking utensils have a history of using plastics containing the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA), which studies have linked to hormonal disruptions and even diabetes.

The Filters Fast filtering technology consists of a cylindrical cartridge that has primary and secondary biological filters. The filters' hollow fibers allow for the filtration of extremely small particles while the cartridge's plastic covering allows water to easily pass through both filters. Both the 16-ounce and 27-ounce bottles will filter 80 gallons, the equivalent of 480 bottles.

"The enormous filtering capacity of our bottles makes them the cost- effective choice," said Scardigno. "Many brands of bottled water cost more than a dollar, but with Filters Fast, you essentially get 480 bottles for less than $20." The filters last an average 60-90 days, depending on usage.

Filters Fast is a 2007 winner of the Bizrate circle of excellence platinum award. All Filters Fast water bottles have been independently tested and certified. Buyers can choose between white or clear bottles.
