Fertility Specialist Bryan R. Hecht, MD, Named Medical Director of Allegheny Health Network’s Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine

Bryan R. Hecht, MD, a fertility specialist most recently at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, has been appointed Medical Director of Allegheny Health Network’s Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, based at West Penn Hospital.

A board-certified specialist in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Hecht also previously practiced at the Cleveland Clinic Fertility Center in Youngstown, OH and has 26 years of experience practicing and teaching reproductive medicine.

“My philosophy of caring has always focused on the importance of a warm, supportive and friendly environment for patients struggling with infertility, with a goal of helping patients find the least expensive, fastest and safest way to produce a pregnancy,” Dr. Hecht said. “ I am thrilled to join a program that shares those values and a commitment to excellence in women’s health services.”

Dr. Hecht is a graduate of Kent State University and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, where he also trained in obstetrics and gynecology and later served as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of Illinois School of Medicine and most recently served as Clinical Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology at the Case Western University School of Medicine.

He has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America” nine times from 1998 through 2014 and is the author of numerous book chapters, abstracts and publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

West Penn Hospital is an affiliate of the Jones Institute of Reproductive Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, a national leader in scientific advances in infertility treatment worldwide. The first In-Vitro Fertilization baby in the United States was born at the Jones Institute in Norfolk. The Jones Institute also pioneered the use of gonadotropins to induce egg production, and many techniques such as embryo cryopreservation.

Infertility affects approximately 14 percent of American couples. Most importantly, 85 percent of those who seek treatment will conceive and deliver a healthy baby. The Jones Institute at West Penn Hospital provides the most advanced level of diagnosis and treatment for infertility through a multidisciplinary approach, with laboratory, psychological and genetics support.

Services offered by the Jones Institute at West Penn Hospital include in-vitro fertilization (IVF), ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), embryo cryopreservation (freezing), assisted embryo hatching, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI),and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).
