FTTIM Makes Brief Strategic Family Therapy Training a Little More Affordable
Date:7/22/2014

Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 22, 2014

To help offset the typical summer slump in funding streams, the Family Therapy Training Institute of Miami is reducing the cost of new contracts to train clinicians in the award-winning model Brief Strategic Family Therapy™. To implement evidence-based practices such as BSFT, organizations write grants to a variety of funding sources, but those opportunities seem to slow down in the summer.

“That’s a situation we want to help relieve somehow,” said the model co-developer Olga Hervis. “The BSFT model is very popular in the mental and behavioral health fields. Therefore, it’s nice to offer prospects and clients another opportunity to train a team of clinicians with a cost reduction.”

The Brief Strategic Family Therapy Certification Training Program involves 9 onsite workshop days, and includes weekly supervision of the trainees as they use the BSFT® methodology to treat at-risk youth and their families. Most trainees complete the rigorous training in 6-9 months, at which time they are presented to the Certification Panel review, and if they pass, they receive their certificate. This certificate is required to be able to practice as a BSFT therapist; the associated fee is regularly $500 per trainee.

From now until September 30, 2014, contracts for BSFT Certification Training for teams of between 3 to 7 trainees will entitle the contracting agency to present 2 trainees to the Certification Panel at no charge – a total savings of $1,000.

BSFT certification is valid for one full year; during that time, the certified clinicians are periodically monitored for adherence and fidelity to the BSFT principles in order to ensure successful outcomes for the families they treat. This adherence program is either conducted by the staff at The Family Therapy Training Institute of Miami or, if previously trained, by an in-house certified Supervisor (BCS). Yearly recertification is required to continue to practice this evidence based model for the first 3 years. Thereafter, recertification occurs once every 2 years.

“FTTIM offered another cost reduction last year as a Spring Savings, and it was very well received,” said Annette Perez, Coordinator of Finance and Operations at FTTIM. “This is a great opportunity to learn and achieve a certification that’s valued within the industry.”

BSFT® is a structured, problem-focused, directive, and practical approach to the treatment of conduct problems, associations with antisocial peers, early drug use and the accompanying problematic family interactions, as well as other recognized youth risk factors. It is designated a "Model Program" by many organizations such as SAMHSA and OJJDP. In the last 5 years, it has twice won the SAMHSA Science & Service Award.
