Inspired by the modern Passive House architecture in Germany and Austria, Fab-homes™ architectural design team Silvia Steurer and Marc MacCaull are already working on the next projects: a passive town home and passive multifamily concept for builders and developers to be released in late spring. Also, in the near future several models will be available as Pre-fabs.

The extensive list of green building options include a highly efficient heat recovery ventilation system, triple glazed passive windows, rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling system, solar photovoltaic and solar hot water panels, geothermal energy baskets, green roof gardens, the use of renewable, low-VOC materials throughout the design and many more. What is a Passive House – The German Passive House Standard:

A Passive House is a building which uses only little energy for heating, cooling and building operation. This is being achieved by using heat recovery systems, superior insulation, ultra tight envelopes, triple pane windows and south orientation for solar heat gain. The name “Passive” refers to the building’s ability to heat and cool itself most of the time. It uses up to 90% less energy than a convention home and up to 50% less energy than a LEED® Platinum home.

The necessary energy can easily be provided through renewable energy sources such as Solar Photovoltaic Panels. The German Passive House standard (certification) requires that the annual heating and cooling energy does not exceed 15 KWh/m2 per year with the primary energy consumption not exceeding 120 KWh/m2 per year. In additional, the air-tightness pressurisation test result should be 0.6-1
