The first step to getting off the couch and out the door is the right pair of shoes. Lady Foot Locker (www.ladyfootlocker.com), a long-time advocate of the active lifestyle, not only offers a variety of products designed specifically for running but has also developed a program in which select stores have associates who are trained running experts.

According to Marta Haut, a Lady Foot Locker certified running expert, "Associates are educated in a variety of programs, including identifying the individual's running needs, anatomy of the foot, and finding the right fit." Marta further explains that "our running experts will measure her foot, assess her stride, and then make recommendations for the right shoe based on fit and function."

A few helpful tips to consider when selecting your next pair of running shoes:

  • When running, the force transmitted through your foot equals approximately four times your normal body weight, making a good cushioning system a priority. The Nike Air Pegasus + provides shock absorption with its full length Air-Sole unit.

  • If your foot needs additional motion control, try the New Balance 769. It's a lightweight running shoe that focuses on stability and midfoot support, and also encompasses the Bioshield technology, which helps keep the foot dry during those April showers.
