Excelsior Medical Corporation Receives FDA Approval to Market SwabCap(TM) Luer Access Valve Disinfection Cap

NEPTUNE, N.J., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Excelsior Medical Corporation, a leading medical device manufacturer headquartered in New Jersey, announces today that they have received 510 (k) clearance to sell their SwabCap(TM) Luer Access Valve Disinfection Cap. SwabCap(TM) is designed to assist the caregiver and protect the patient by disinfecting their swabable luer access valve prior to line access and maintaining antiseptic conditions between line accesses - all in a passive, uniform manner. The distinctive patent-pending thread cover design makes SwabCap an effective cleaning alternative, disinfecting the valve after five minutes of application and acting as a physical barrier to contamination for up to ninety-six hours under normal conditions if not removed.

"The luer access valve disinfection process is an important task but one that is, according to research, often subject to non-compliance," states Tony Saia, Vice President Global Marketing, Excelsior Medical Corporation. "SwabCap is designed to reduce the risk of contamination by simplifying the disinfection process, while providing standardization to this critical step in the catheter care process."

In addition to SwabCap, Excelsior Medical Corporation expects to launch a second innovation in the coming months - their ZR flush syringe with an integrated SwabCap in a patent-pending flush delivery system.

Excelsior Medical Corporation is the leading manufacturer of pre-filled catheter flush syringes and syringe pump systems. Formed in 1989, Excelsior manufactures, markets, and sells pre-filled saline flush syringes, pre-filled heparin flush and lock syringes, and syringe pump systems to customers in the United States and internationally. Excelsior Medical Corporation is a privately-held company whose main focus is the development of innovative Catheter Maintenance Products that reduce infection, medication errors and healthcare costs.
