European Markets for Dental Prosthetics and CAD/CAM Devices
Date:10/28/2013

London (PRWEB) October 28, 2013

In 2012, the total European market for dental prosthetics and CAD/CAM systems was valued at nearly €10 billion.

The European markets include Austria, Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Scandinavia (Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark), Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Effects of the economic instability in Europe affected various segments of the market in adverse ways; however, both the prosthetic and CAD/CAM system markets are expected to continue to rise over the 2012–2019 forecast period. Factors including the aging baby boomer population, popular culture and the media are also driving dental procedures.

The number of dentists per capita varies greatly between countries. The Scandinavian countries have the lowest population-to-dentist ratio, while the Netherlands has one of the highest. There are many factors at play here. First, state-sponsored and sophisticated healthcare systems of Scandinavian countries account for better dental care, involving more dentists per capita. Second, small countries like Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands have high population-to-dentist ratios because small populations have a harder time generating significant numbers of dentists.

Finally, Spain stands as an outlier with its population-to-dentist ratio as the highest in Europe. This is due to the initial lower levels of dentists in Spain, which is now experiencing rapid growth.
