Europe Micro Irrigation System Market Driven by Growing Environmental Concerns and Decreasing Water Availability - New Report by MicroMarket Monitor

(PRWEB) July 11, 2014

Europe is one of the largest consumers of micro irrigation systems, owing to large cultivated-and hence, irrigated land area. The agricultural sector is a significant user of water resources in Europe, accounting for around 30.0% of the total water use. The scale and importance of irrigation is significantly greater in the southern region, but far from negligible in most northern ones.

In the southern region, irrigation accounts for over 60.0% of the water use in most countries, while in the northern region, it varies from almost zero-in a few countries-to over 30.0% in others. In terms of the area irrigated and the amount of water used, water demand for irrigation is relatively insignificant in Ireland and Finland, modest in Sweden, Luxembourg and Denmark, cumulative in regional importance in the U.K., Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and France, and nationally significant in Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece. The European micro irrigation market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 16.5%, from 2013 to 2018.

Improving the productivity of irrigated agriculture is expected to be the foundation for securing affordable food for the population of Asia-Pacific. Feeding extra 1.5 billion people by 2050 will create the need for more irrigation to secure cropland productivity. There is a considerable scope to increase food production, enhance livelihoods, and reduce poverty in the existing irrigated areas. Groundwater and pumping irrigation is booming in Asia-Pacific. The Asia-Pacific market size is projected to increase at the highest CAGR of 21.3%, by 2018 year. Irrigated agriculture has been the key driver for growth in the rural areas of the Asia-Pacific region.
