Etymotic Research Becomes The Official Hearing Protection Sponsor Of DrumLine Battle

Elk Grove Village, IL (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

Etymotic Research, an innovator in hearing wellness solutions, today announced a new sponsorship of the DrumLine Battle® series of competitive percussion events. Front and center are Etymotic’s hearing protection products ETY•Plugs® and Music•PRO® electronic earplugs. Both products maintain high-fidelity while protecting against the harmful effects of high-level sound. Etymotic will be on hand to kick off the sponsorship at the Drum Corps International Championships on August 7-9, 2014 in Indianapolis, which is also the site of the latest DrumLine Battle event. The Vic Firth brand of ETY•Plugs will be featured and available for sale throughout the championships.

DrumLine Battle events showcase percussion ensembles of any instrumentation and any skill level year-round, spotlighting their unique talents and creativity in a high-energy face-to-face competition. Events feature both all-age and youth-only divisions. DrumLine Battle units have anywhere between 3 and 30 members with each group performing for 1.5 to 2 minutes in each live round. Showmanship is the primary focus of these events combining presentation and expression. The objective is to “fire-up” the audience and out-battle or out-perform the opponent ensemble. Instruments must be carried. Main instruments are battery percussion (snare, tenors, bass, cymbals), but participants may use other instruments if carried. Crowd reaction may have influence over the judges’ final decisions.

Etymotic’s mission is to promote hearing protection among music groups of all kinds. Exposure to excessive noise from drumlines, pipe bands, marching bands, orchestras, and music from a player’s own instrument or nearby instruments can cause permanent hearing loss depending on the intensity and duration of the sound. ETY•Plugs and Etymotic’s electronic earplugs reduce most noise to safe levels while preserving the clarity of speech and the richness of music.

ETY•Plugs are configured to replicate the natural response of the ear canal so that when sound enters the earplug, it is reproduced unchanged, exactly the same as the ear would hear it, only quieter. Music•PRO Electronic Earplugs have revolutionized hearing protection by automatically adapting to unsafe sound levels and restoring natural hearing when hearing is not at risk. Users avoid the inconvenience of removing earplugs to hear clearly. “Long-term exposure to loud sound has a cumulative impact on hearing over our lifetime. For musicians, this problem is acute – marching band sound levels can peak at 120 decibels, where safe exposure time is less than 10 seconds,” said Dr. Gail Gudmundsen, Director of Audiology at Etymotic. “But the good news is that noise-induced hearing loss is totally preventable.”
