Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles Celebrates National Epilepsy Awareness Month with the Walk to End Epilepsy
Date:11/12/2013

Los Angeles (PRWEB) November 12, 2013

The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles celebrates National Epilepsy Awareness Month by hosting the Walk to End Epilepsy on Sunday, November 17th at the Rose Bowl.

The Walk is expected to draw nearly 3,000 walkers, raise funds for the fight against epilepsy and honor the 160,000 families in the region who live with seizures.

“The Walk to End Epilepsy is an incredible way to honor individuals and families affected by epilepsy and inspire everyone to join this fight,” said Susan Pietsch-Escueta, executive director, Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. “We are deeply grateful to our Walk participants for joining us each year. Their support allows us to provide ongoing care in our region and fund crucial treatment and research that we hope will one day end all epilepsies.”

Money raised through the event supports the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles in its mission to connect families, stop seizures and find cures. This includes research, the training of epilepsy specialists, a helpline for families affected, and school and community outreach so everyone knows more about epilepsy and seizure first aid.

This year’s Walk, sponsored by Shangri-La Construction/Webcor Builders and Eisai, hopes to raise over $400,000. Other corporate sponsors include Cyberonics, Wedbush, Lundbeck, Toyota Financial Services, First Foundation Bank and UCB. The event marks its fourth consecutive year at the Rose Bowl. It features a noncompetitive 5K run/walk and 1-mile stroll, games, live music, food trucks, and epilepsy education including a walk-through brain and a free comic book, MediKidz Explain Epilepsy, which aims to educate young people and eliminate the misunderstanding associated with epilepsy.

For more information or to register for the Walk, visit http://www.walktoendepilepsy.org. Registration is $25.

Epilepsy affects nearly 3 million people in the U.S. and 65 million worldwide. This year, another 200,000 people in our country will be diagnosed with epilepsy and more people will die from seizure-related causes than from breast cancer.
