Endovenous Laser Therapy Used for Treatment of Varicose Veins
Date:10/7/2009

Individuals with varicose veins, a very common medical condition, can turn to endovenous laser therapy for treatment.

The blood overfills and distends the superficial veins under the skin, resulting in the bulging seen in varicose veins. It also results in feelings of discomfort and heaviness. Endovenous laser therapy is a quick, effective procedure for varicose vein removal.

In contrast to the old method of vein stripping, laser vein therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses targeted laser energy to close the vein. During the procedure, a thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein. After the fiber is correctly placed, laser energy is applied as the physician slowly moves the laser through the length of the vein. Short pulses of laser energy heat the vein from within causing it to shrink and seal shut--eliminating the bulging of the vein at its source. Afte
