Emdeon Assistant Earns HFMA Peer Reviewed Certification for Second Year in a Row

Scores Are Higher Following Review of Performance Indicators

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Emdeon, a leader in revenue and payment cycle solutions, announced today that their automated patient eligibility and benefits verification tool, Emdeon(R) Assistant(TM), earned the Peer Reviewed designation of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) for the second consecutive year. HFMA Peer Review designation places Emdeon Assistant on a short list of prestigious solutions that have been proven effective by industry expert volunteers and independent HFMA staff.

All products presented for this certification must meet predetermined standards as established by HFMA in areas such as product effectiveness, quality, overall value and customer support to earn the Peer Reviewed designation. The 2009 assessment of Emdeon Assistant had an increase in scores for the predetermined standards over the previous year.

Emdeon Assistant simplifies patient registration through real-time eligibility and benefit verifications and interfaces with most existing patient registration systems. By accessing a wide range of information from available payers and credit bureaus, Emdeon Assistant helps providers determine a patient's eligibility status and ability to pay in an easy-to-read format. Emdeon Assistant also verifies patients' addresses and key demographic information, thus helping providers maintain contact with patients after they leave the office for follow-up care, billing or other communications.

In addition, Emdeon Assistant is introducing a new capability to estimate a patient's financial responsibility at the point of service. This information, together with the other data available through Emdeon Assistant, will help customers reduce costly write-offs and errors.

"Our goal is to make healthcare more efficient, and that includes creating tools that help our customers do their jobs more easily and effectively," said George Lazenby, chief executive officer of Emdeon. "We are delighted to receive Peer Reviewed status from HFMA for the second year in a row. This designation is another example of our commitment to offer superior solutions in the healthcare marketplace."
