SuperBowl Champion is also a Champion for Babies
NEW YORK, Feb 4 /PRNewswire/ -- March of Dimes New York Division announced today that NY Giants Quarterback, Eli Manning, will serve as the official Celebrity Chairman for March for Babies(SM) in New York City. Formerly known as WalkAmerica, March for Babies is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that benefits all babies-those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive.
"I'm proud to be partnering with March of Dimes and part of the effort to ensure that every baby has a healthy start in life," said Manning. "Everyone can be a champion for baby health by signing up for March for Babies." Manning, who yesterday was named the Most Valuable Player, after the NY Giants won Super Bowl XLII, plans to walk with over 15,000 New Yorkers on Sunday, April 27th in Manhattan to support March of Dimes largest fundraising event.
"The involvement of high profile celebrities is key, as we aim for the day when all babies will be born healthy," said Jane Chmielinski, New York City's 2008 March for Babies Chairperson. "We are thrilled to have a champion like Eli Manning, committed to our cause."
Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year in the United States, including over 30,000 in New York State. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have lifelong disabilities. Babies born healthy need champions too, to assure they have access to newborn screening and preventive health care. The March of Dimes is there for all babies.
March for Babies will take place on Sunday, April 27th at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. New Yorkers can sign up by going to http://www.marchforbabies.org.
